Rossetti's Menu (Repetition)

Today, you will be working on creating a menu that utilizes the design principle of repetition. Please read the instructions VERY CAREFULLY and refer to the example on the website. Your finished product should match this exactly, except for the color scheme that you choose.

Setup:
  • 8.5 x 11" LANDSCAPE
  • Margins .25" on all sides
  • Set for two columns
  • Layout name: Rossetti's Menu
Creating the Document:
  • Insert page 2 after page 1 (Page menu > Insert)
  • Create the ruler guides (page 1):
    • From the top ruler:
      • 2.5"
      • 4"
      • 5.5"
      • 5.75"
    • From the left ruler:
      • 1.25"
  • To draw the squares on the first page, do the following:
    • Use the table tool on the tools palette.
    • Click the tool and create a box that is as large as the right column.
    • Enter 13 columns and 22 rows.
    • You should see a grid of boxes that you can now fill in with 20% fill of any color you want. This color must use a color category from the color theory handout (primary, secondary, tertiary), in addition to one of the following color schemes:
      • Complementary (opposites on the color wheel)
      • Split - Complementary (colors found almost opposite each other)
      • Triad (found equidistant on the color wheel, forms a triangle)
      • Analogous (colors found adjacent (next to) to each other on the color wheel)
      • Monochromatic Colors (relying on only one color with variations in intensity)
    • REMEMBER: Stay away from dark text on dark background, and light text on light background).
Graphics:

Add graphics as you see them on the handout, but choose different ones. Be aware of proportions and pixilation. The pictures must match the topic.

Holiday Wish List

Today you will be creating a holiday wish list. Create a new Quark document that is either portrait or landscape and has margins of .5 on every side. The layout name should be Holiday Wish List.

Create a title at the top of your document. Be creative, the title can be whatever you wish.

Provide the name of each wishlist item and the picture of the item. You must have AT LEAST 10 items on your list.

You must adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Use of no more than 4 fonts (choose them wisely!)
  • Use of no more than 4 colors (choose them wisely too!)
  • Every item on your wish list should include BOTH the name and a picture of the item.
  • Your name must be typed somewhere on the document.
In addition, you must incorporate the use of these features:
  • Drop shadow
  • Background color and border
  • Type styles (italic, bold, underline, small caps, etc.)
  • Rotation of text/picture
  • Rotation of picture independent from text box (Fill in the background color of the picture box so that I can see this has been done).
  • Use of the starburst tool
Save as Wishlist in your MP2 folder.

Be creative! This project is worth 50 points (5 points will be awarded for each guideline met and each feature used).

Holiday Mail for Heroes Greeting Cards

The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes have teamed up for the fourth annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

From now until December 10th you are invited to send holiday cards to our American service members, their families, and veterans all over the world. Anyone can send a card and you can send as many as you would like!

Your objective:

Create a holiday card using the template provided to send to our service men and women overseas.

Top left and right are upside down. Therefore, you will need to "flip" vertically and horizontally. Graphics and ClipArt can be flipped. Textboxes cannot.

Change your margins to .5 in. Display rulers. To help you see your "workspace," draw a line down the middle of the page (3 3/4" mark) and across the middle of the page (5" mark).

Create a holiday card. Wish the person well. Feel free to search for quotes, lyrics, jokes; content for the inside of the card. Also include a personal message. Don't forget to spell check.

The inside left and right will contain text boxes and are right side up. Be sure to put your name on the card along with Morris Hills High School and Rockaway, NJ. This can be on either the inside right or back of the card.

Before you print your card, remove the "guide" lines. Also Print Preview!

All cards will be mailed to the Red Cross on December 3rd.
